Bertram
Charles Binning (1909-1976)
was a central figure in British Columbia's post-war modernist
art world. Highly acclaimed for both this paintings and sculptures,
Binning was also a firm believer in the importance of drawing.
In his talk, Ian Thom, senior curator at the
Vancouver Art Gallery, will discuss Binning's drawings of boats
and forest interiors in the context of his legacy as an important
20th century Canadian artist. Using the Burnaby Art Gallery's
exhibition of the artist's works on paper as a backdrop, Thom
will pay particular attention to Binning's dinstinctive sensibility
and drawing style, including his unique use of line and space.
