BRUCE
PASHAK: ARTIST TALK
Wednesday July 29, 7 p.m.
Free
Vancouver artist Bruce
Pashak creates images that
simultaneously compel us with their beauty while causing us to
question some of the basic assumptions that underpin both contemporary
and traditional aesthetics. Working with a range of media, Pashak
often combines an illusionary graphic technique centred on the
human figure with less naturalistic modes of expression that ultimately
undermine any true illusionism. Many
of his images of men and women also invite social and political
readings that are critical of the status quo.
Pashak's talk will focus
on the drawing process as it pertains to his artistic practice,
giving viewers an opportunity to gain more insight into the
meaning of these elebarote mixed media images.
Pashak will also discuss drawing from a philosophical perspective,
claiming it as a viable genre unto itself. He will argue that
drawing can be both a means of artistic expression as well
as an effective voice that fosters the communication of relevant
social criticism and art theory.
