Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Lesley Finlayson earned a Masters degree in Fine Art from the University of Calgary in 1989. Now based in Vancouver, Finlayson creates atmospheric paintings and drawings that depict the BC landscape as well as its urban places. Markings features recent drawings produced during the artist's visits to the grasslands of the Fraser River. At once spontaneous and delicate, these evocative images go beyond the visual, capturing the region's spirit. Measured and serene in mood and appearance, Finlayson's drawings double as contemplations on the process of looking.
