DIANE FARRIS GALLERY
THE PRIMARY MARK
John Dennison, Sam Lam, Nick Lepard, Vicky Marshall, Amy Alice Thompson, Neil Wedman, Gu Xiong
July 16 — August 8
Opening Reception: Saturday, July 18, 2—4 p.m.
As an expressive medium in its own right, drawing is also often regarded as the foundation of many other art practices, including painting, printmaking, sculpture and architecture. Drawing's dual status as process and product is the working principle behind The Primary Mark, a group exhibition that features both preparatory works and finished pieces.
The exhibition featurees works by gallery artists as well as guest artists, and includes additional images sourced from private collections. Among the highlights in The Primary Mark are colourful and stylish compositions by John Dennison from his recent series Tableaux Printemps; memorable sketchbook scenes by Gu Xiong, who captured life in China before and after the Revolution; and new expressionist drawings by Nick Lepard. Amy Alice Thompson presents a panel of eight Bird Girls pieces. Works by Sam Lam, Vicky Marshall and Neil Wedman will also be featured.
