DRAWING MEANING
Paul Béliveau, Brian Boulton, Christian Nicolay, Gary Pearson, Charles Rea and Benoit Saito
July 22 - August 23
Featuring the work of contemporary Canadian artists Paul Béliveau, Brian Boulton, Christian Nicolay, Gary Pearson, Charles Rea, and Benoit Saito, this group exhibition considers drawing both as an independent medium and as a form used in combination with other media such as photocopier technology and collage. All of the featured artists regard drawing either as their primary mode of expression or as a significant component of their multi-disciplinary practice. The works to be showcased range from Boulton’s minimal photo-realist figurative works and Saito’s architectural abstractions (both produced with graphite on paper) to Nicolay’s mixed media political collages and Pearson’s wry pen and inks. Beliveau’s transformative interpretations of plant-life make clever use of Xerox copies in combination with graphite, while Rea’s pencil crayon and pastel views portray major Canadian train wrecks.
