Elliott Louis Gallery joins this year’s Drawn Festival with a group exhibition that brings together some of the most intriguing established and emerging artists of 2009. Included in the show are established gallery artists Bruce Pashak, Nancy Boyd, Scott Plumbe, Andrew Tong and Mandy Boursicot along with young up-and-comers Carolyn Stockbridge, Derek Dunlop and Jeremiah Birnbaum. Also featured is work by Theresa Sapergia.
While stylistically and thematically diverse, each member of the group brings a uniquely contemporary handling of their subject matter and materials. From Pashak’s probing of relations, affects and becomings into which both human beings and animals are thrown, Dunlop’s and Birnbaum’s conceptual investigation of the nihilistic tendencies of male cultural identity, Stockbridge’s comment about the human within the urban centre to Boursicot’s, Boyd’s and Plumbe’s unique capacity to visualize the very forces of earth and all that populates it, these artists each respond to their surroundings in a unique and engaging way. Curated by Lynn Ruscheinsky.
